A message from the president of the NCMBA
My sincere gratitude for your confidence displayed in appointing me as the new president of the NCMBA.It is indeed an honour and privilege to be able to be of service to you.
The construction industry and the NCMBA has and is presently still going through a difficult period, due to the economical downturn. Added to this the constraints experienced in the Kimberley area, is mainly due to the lack of services which has influenced the decision by city council to place a moratorium on development and construction in the Kimberley area.
Needless to say the recession has a serious ripple effect on the economy and employment in the Northern Cape. Our city fathers have indicated that relief is in sight as the moratorium should be lifted by November 2010.This is a bit late to have effect, as all builders will be closing for a three week break, which they so richly deserve during the festive season. Training is and always will be a priority to the industry.
We intend approaching SETA to become more involved (IE) financially where payments can be timeously made available to the different institutions involved. This is where serious constraints are experienced especially in the training of artisans. The critical path will be to have all formats in place before 2011 as I believe the industry will once again experience a boom. We will be ready to cope with the demand for skills training. The community, especially the unemployed will be given the opportunity of improving their capabilities while at the same time providing a source of skilled labour for the future.
Stay positive may God richly bless you all not only next year, but in all your future endeavours.
